Using TEFL from South Africa
Teach English online or take your qualification abroad.
Online teaching from South Africa
StudyTEFL graduates use their certificates when applying for suitable online ESL roles. To date, we haven't had a graduate tell us an online employer rejected the StudyTEFL certificate because of the certificate itself or because StudyTEFL is UK-based.
That's our actual experience, not a guarantee that every company accepts every applicant.
Teaching English abroad
South Africans can access important TEFL markets, but passports, degrees, English-medium education, police clearances, visas and employer rules can all matter.
If a job specifically requires CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, Level 5 or another named qualification, take the qualification it asks for.
Professional TEFL certificate
Cheap TEFL doesn't need to end with a cheap-looking certificate.
Current core StudyTEFL certificates use QR-linked verification so employers can check the StudyTEFL record online.
For most online work, the digital certificate is the useful format. If you later need formal legalisation for overseas use, the StudyTEFL certificate can be notarised and apostilled through the UK route.
For South African students: your South African-issued degree, police clearance or other local documents follow South Africa's legalisation process. DIRCO legalises eligible South African public documents for use abroad, while foreign public documents must be legalised by the country that issued them. Your StudyTEFL certificate is UK-issued, so its legalisation happens through the UK route.
Independent student feedback
Low price gets attention. The learning has to earn the review.
“I was skeptical at first because the price was so low, so I did a lot of research before taking the course myself. I must say, it turned out to be a fantastic and efficient learning experience.”
Stephen Blackman · Trustpilot · 2025
“These people really care about the student and learning that they try to make happen. It's so cheap but you get so much.”
Astrid · Go Overseas · 2025
